Oxidised jewellery

Oxidised jewellery has a deliberately darkened, antique-grey surface that brings out the detail of engraved and textured designs. It is easy to wear, lighter in mood than gold-tone pieces, and has become an everyday favourite.

Artificial jewellery: the descriptions on this page are about look and finish. They do not mean precious metal, natural gemstones or real diamonds. Ask for the materials and dimensions of the exact design you choose.

What oxidised jewellery is

The darkened look comes from a chemical or finishing treatment on the metal surface. In artificial jewellery the base is usually an alloy or brass with a silver-tone, oxidised finish. Designs often use tribal, floral and coin motifs, with ghungroo bells, mirrors or coloured stones.

When to wear it

Oxidised jewellery pairs best with cotton, handloom, khadi and block-printed outfits, indo-western kurtas and even jeans. It suits college, office, travel and casual festive days such as Navratri. Mix different oxidised pieces freely, but avoid combining them with bright gold-tone jewellery in the same look.

Caring for oxidised pieces

Do not polish oxidised jewellery with a silver polishing cloth or cleaner: it removes the dark finish that gives the piece its character. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth, keep it away from water and perfume, and store it in a closed pouch to limit moisture. See the care guide and our oxidised collection notes.
